Antwerp Declaration On The €uropean Financial Advisor Competences
Press Release
Introduction
In a post-MiFID financial Europe, the predominant requirement is for financial advisors to have demonstrable, verifiable, professional competence.
Financial services in Europe are now governed by MiFID which contains a competence provision that is seldom discussed but extremely significant,. MiFID requires persons and firms within its scope to employ advisors with the skills, knowledge and expertise necessary for the discharge of the responsibilities allocated to them.
The European Commission is relying on this sweeping legislation to guarantee professionalism across the financial services landscape: but until now there has been no accepted definition of competence.
The Conference on Professionalism in Financial Services in Europe will discuss professional financial advisory competence in all its facets: offering authoritative speakers from the European Commission, the FSA and Europe’s largest trade and employer organizations among others. Each top tier speaker will provide a unique and influential perspective on what competence in financial services really means and how that will impact the sector.
As a backdrop to this, the €uropean Financial Advisor Project (funded by the European Commission) will present their results (a competence-based solution for training and qualification, supported by industry and other stakeholders) together with reports from two other on-going projects, which are helping to change the face of professional training and qualification for financial services in Europe.
Delegates will include top level directors from financial services providers, top national policy makers and ministerial directors responsible for financial services, directors of national and European professional trade groups and qualifications bodies and high level administrators from universities and training institutes.
